Video-conferencing to be a key factor in reducing the spread of COVID-19

Video-conferencing to be a key factor in reducing the spread of COVID-19 Former President of the Australian Medical Association Dr Mukesh Haikerwal says “a certain level of preparedness” for the coronavirus can be achieved by “using technology”.

While doctors across the nation struggle to cope with the number of patients who turn up at clinics requiring testing for COVID-19, Dr Haikerwal has been treating patients in car parks and using video conferencing to manage potential coronavirus cases.

Mr Haikerwal said he “wanted to have a scheme that improved people’s access to services” and also reduced the risk of patients contracting the coronavirus while waiting for an appointment.

“The idea is that people ring ahead, they present in the car park… and we have that consultation” using video conferencing.

Mr Haikerwal said that video-conferencing means that patients “can be consulted from home” if necessary.
