Now people have called him out for faking the whole thing and it really is a lot to unpack. So, shall we? Cyril Schreiner, an online star and well-known French prankster (and with a following of 2.7million on TikTok), is the talk of viral videos this week, after he filled his bath with those tiny little balls that, when soaked in water for a few hours, expand to be quite large. Like 100 times their original size. And when he popped three boxes of the things in his bathtub recently? Utter carnage and mayhem. In the video titled. J’AI INONDE MA MAISON AVEC DES PERLES D’EAU AIDEZ MOI (or, for the English speakers, I HAVE FLOODED MY HOUSE WITH WATER PEARLS HELP ME) the polymer pearls took over Cyril’s quaint little French bathroom, filling his blue tub to the brim and also overflowing his toilet and sink. Putting his exploits into one YouTube video for our entertainment, the TikTok user believed the balls were technically biodegradable, so he was fine to try and flush them down the toilet after realising they’d seemingly travelled through the piping in his bathroom. Biodegradable or not, he ended up flooding his own washroom with the plastic balls blocking the system big time. Keeping us all updated on his exploits, he then explained the drainage system of his ‘hood had been blocked as well – and apparently the authorities were looking for the culprit. In a vain attempt to clean it all up, he also claimed he tried to vacuum up the little balls but that resulted in the vacuum catching on fire. So he resorted to salt to try and melt the balls…which resulted in what we’ll call a ‘brown substance’ coming back up into his sink. It’s all very dramatic. The thing is, many are finding his daring tale rather dubious with many online pundits going far to disprove his theory of neighbourhood ruin (mainly due to the fact the little balls are easily squashed and likely can’t possess the force to open steel drains, or the fact he had the plug in the bath, meaning they couldn’t travel to the toilet and sink), but props to Cyril for putting the effort in to entertain us all, right? Plus, you can hardly deny the cleanup is still a bit of a biatch. The jury is still out on just how far this prank went and to what extent he messed with his drains, but the Twittersphere is divided.
