At least 9 were killed and more than 30 were injured in Turkey's north-eastern Van province after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Iran's western border area on Sunday.

Footage filmed in the town of Baskale shows severely damaged buildings after the strong tremors, as emergency units work among the broken scattered remains of the houses.

According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the epicentre of the earthquake was Khoy County in Iran. The quake took place at 06:53 am local time (03:53 GMT), and was reportedly felt in Iran's other neighbouring countries Armenia and Azerbaijan.
