Fire investigators continue to search for missing family member

Fire investigators continue to search for missing family member BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - Crews are back at the scene of a house fire in the Union area Wednesday. A person who lived at the home remains missing.

Fire destroyed the home on Caitlin Drive Tuesday in the Churchill Estates subdivision.

The family who lived there had not been able to reach a family member as of Tuesday night.

Union Fire Chief Michael Morgan said they've been searching through the debris. Crews are hoping to bring a piece of equipment that has a claw on it to help them get through what's left of the home.

They believe the fire started in the basement. By the time firefighters and law enforcement responded, flames had already spread to the second floor. They could not enter the front door because the floors were already sagging and falling.

Chief Morgan said most of the 5,000 square foot home collapsed into about 3.5 feet of material. It's hard to go through, he said.

Search dogs were brought in to help search for the missing person. Chief Morgan said the dogs didn't respond positively like they normally would but they pointed to some areas of interest.

Chief Morgan said investigators have checked the hospitals and other places but there is no sign of the missing family member.
