At least a billion animals killed in bushfires Australia has lost devastating numbers of wildlife in the bushfire crisis this season, with current estimates of at least a billion birds, mammals and reptiles decimated. Then there's all the insects, bats, fish and frogs lost that haven't been counted in that figure.

The loss of so many animals will affect how our forests and ecosystems regrow.
