CentralReach Director of Research Dr. Rick Kubina, BCBA-D recently sat down with renowned Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) professional Dr. Patrick McGreevy to discuss “Essential for Living.” “Essential for Living” is a functional life skills curriculum designed for children and adults with behavioral disorders, for whom a developmental curriculum is no longer effective and that enhances the quality of life for learners with autism.
“It’s like some of the other [ABA] approaches in the sense that it is based on Skinner’s Analysis of Verbal Behavior,” said Dr. McGreevy, BCBA-D. “It is unlike some of the others, in that: it’s not developmental; it doesn’t compare performance to age levels or grade levels or anything like that. It is pretty much solely referenced against social validity issues; issues that would have to do with the quality of your life, rather than any comparison with typical development, or typically developing children.”
