It comes as the Morrison government, on Thursday, revealed key components of its $17.62 billion stimulus package which will target businesses and Centrelink recipients in an effort to prevent the economy from sliding into a recession.
In a $4.7 billion blow to the budget bottom line, 6.5 million pensioners and welfare and family tax benefit recipients would be eligible for a one-off $750 cash payment from March 31.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the package would also focus heavily on small businesses and would implement a $1.3 billion wage assistance for apprentices as well as inject a cash flow directly to small businesses to maintain wages for employees.
Mr Strong told Sky News host Chris Kenny the "the message we're saying is don't spend it on Amazon or overseas retailers make sure you spend it locally".
"It was quite a surprising package," Mr Strong said.
"We got more than we were hoping for".
