Purpose: The main objective of the study is to identify the best practices of selected Science High Schools.
Design/methodology/approach: The study used a qualitative descriptive multiple case study design which would involve three selected Science High Schools, focusing on their best practices which are believed to contribute to the success of the school.
Findings: Data revealed that teachers to deliver the instruction in the STEM strand should be hired according to their expertise in the field of Science, Mathematics, English, and other subjects related to its implementation. More so, teachers’ attitudes towards work must also be considered to ensure high-quality delivery of the needs of STEM students. Since students were the ultimate beneficiaries of the trainings and preparation, they should be able to do their share as the primary concern of education. Value formation must be observed among students. They must accept that they need to have the proper determination and hard work. Moreover, school stakeholders must also have the initiative to help in the realization of school goals and objectives. Students who must be admitted in the STEM strand must pass the school’s entrance examination, undergo an interview, and find time to attend the schools’ orientation so that they would know about the standards in their intended school. Furthermore, the curriculum of STEM these days were believed to answer the training needs of the students in preparing them for STEM-related courses and jobs. However, research must be strengthened to promote its benefits among learners and others who can benefit from it. Not only research but also robotics must be included as it was believed by the school participants to contribute to preparing students in the field of engineering and other STEM-related courses. The objectives of the schools must be aligned with its vision and mission. A clear definition of these ensured the organizations’ ease of implementation for the success of all who were part of it.
Research limitations/implications: The study was limited in identifying the best practices of the Selected Science High Schools. The results gathered were used in the design and development of an Enhanced STEM Implementation Guide for the whole DepEd-CALABARZON and other schools where it is applicable.
Originality/value: The result of the study would help STEM Strand implementation. It serves as a guide and technique-rich resource for all STEM implementers.
