Migrants wade through Evros River from Turkey to get to Greece Migrants waded across the Evros River in northwestern Turkey on as they attempted to reach the land border with Greece.

The river runs through Turkey and along most of the frontier with the neighbouring European Union country.

Thousands of migrants and refugees have attempted to cross into Greece in the past week after Turkey made good on a threat to open its borders, allowing the migrants to enter into Europe.
