Mark Wahlberg the devout Catholic proudly shows off Ash Wednesday cross on his forehead after church He infamously has a criminal history including serving time in jail for two racially-charged attacks on a Vietnamese men as a teenager.And on one of the most important days on the Catholic calendar, Mark Wahlberg looked ready to repent for his past sins.The 48-year-old actor took to his Instagram to post a video on Ash Wednesday to proudly show off the cross marking on his forehead as he left the St. Paul The Apostle Church in Los Angeles.In the selfie clip, Mark urged his 14.4million followers to 'do more' including for peace and kindness. He said: 'People always ask "what are you going to give up for Lent?" And I think more importantly is to try to do more; more love, more peace, more acceptance, more caring and more kindness.  'Have a beautiful Lenten season. God bless you all, see you on Easter. Love you.'Earlier in the day, Mark looked in good spirits as he got in some luxury shopping  done on the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of praying and fasting as devotees receive repentance ash in the form of a cross on their foreheads to either the words 'Repent, and believe in the Gospel' or the dictum 'Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.' As a devout Roman Catholic, no doubt it is important for Mark to participate in acts of contrition as in his teenage years he served 45 days in prison for felony assault for two racially charged attacks on Vietnamese men on the same day.In April 1988, Wahlberg assaulted a middle-aged Vietnamese man named Thanh Lam calling him a 'Vietnam f***ing s***' before knocking him unconscious with a wooden stick. Later that day he attacked a second man named Hoa Trinh whom he punched in the eye.He was arrested as investigaotrs noted that Wahlberg made numerous unsolicited racial statements about 'g**ks' and 'slant-eyed g**ks' according to documents obtained by The Smoking Gun in 1997.Before that in June 1986, Wahlberg and three friends chased after three black children while yelling 'kill the n****r, kill the n****r' and throwing rocks at them.The next day he and others followed a group of school children during a field trip at the beach and yelled racial epithets at them, threw rocks at them, and 'summond other white males who joined' in the harassment according to those The Smoking Gun documents. In August 1986, civil action was filed against him for violating the civil rights of his victims and the case was settled the following month.In August 1992, Wahlbeg fractured the jaw of a neighbor in an attack as court documents state that 'without provocation or cause, viciously and repeatedly kicked' a man in the face while another man held the victim to the ground.  Since those days, the Boston-native has moved on to a successful career and hip-hop then acting.Just days ago Mark was in attendance at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to cheer on his team the Boston Celtics as they played the LA Lakers.The Boogie Nights star turned the game into a family aff
