Easy yokes? Light burdens? Civil...war? I learned something beautiful from Matthew 11:28-30 which speaks about the yoke the Savior wants us to take on. A yoke is something that you put on an animal that restricts movement and attaches a load to it. How can Messiah call that "easy" and "rest"?
I always read this to say that He wants to put a yoke upon us but after digging on this I realize He is saying come and get yoked WITH me and walk beside me and THIS is what makes it easy!
A wise technique for teaching a young steer how to take on a yoke is to pair him with an older, more experienced ox that knows the instructions! He already knows how the Master and recognizes His commands.
Contrast this with the yoke of the scribes and Pharisees which Yeshua calls "heavy burdens" that they are "not willing to move with their finger".
Is there really such a thing as an "easy yoke"? How can Yeshua tell his disciples to listen to the same group that He frequently calls "hypocrites" and "snakes"? Details inside! :)
