Lesson #50: Using a Navajo Spindle to Alter Yarn Twist on a Project in Progress Sometimes the yarn on a knitting project in progress develops too much twist, especially when using Z twist singles on the stationary rods. A Navajo spindle can be used to adjust the twist in the working yarn while the piece is in progress. Then I use the yarn right from the cop of yarn on the spindle to finish the knitting. Note: I am respinning a manufactured yarn to remove too much twist that developed as I knit with it. If you are spinning yarn from unspun wool, you would want more Z twist into your yarn than I am doing here, and you would draft the wool fibers out with your left hand while spinning the spindle in the opposite direction.
