CONSERVATION SOCIETY SIERRA LEONE PROMOTE REDUCTION OF OIL & GAS POLLUTION: SLBC NEWS 28TH JUNE 2019 Oil spills have had enormous impacts on the environment. There has never been an oil exploration or extraction effort that has not had some impact on the local plant and animal life.
The Conservation Society of Sierra Leone Program officer, Abdul Dumbuya said is why their organization is partnering with foundations like MAVA to ensure that information is brought into the public view that will reduce the impacts of oil and gas extraction.
MAVA Foundation through the PRCM – The Regional Partnership for Marine and Coastal Conservation and aligned CSO’s like the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone are to ensure sensitization of the general public and to engage key stakeholders and policy makers on the issues behind oil and gas exploration. The initiative covers the term of the rainy season and ends in November.
In the first component of the project, civil society stakeholders have been identified alongside policy makers and government MDAs for technical support. This was the first meeting to map out the engagement process for subsequent awareness raising among vulnerable communities.
