The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating numerous burglaries that occurred over the past several weeks. All of the burglaries occurred in the Riverland Neighborhood in the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect approached each vehicle on foot and pulled on the door handles in an attempt to gain entry into the vehicle. The suspect also entered a carport and screened porch attempting to gain entry into victims’ residences.
During the investigation, patrol officers assigned to the area provided detectives of the Rapid Offender Crimes Unit the descriptions of suspicious individuals who they identified in the area. Detectives discovered that the residents who were targeted in this area equipped their homes with the Ring camera and participate in the Neighbors application by Ring.
Officers and Detectives identified the burglary suspect via the Ring video footage provided to them by the homeowners.
The suspect identified as Michael Whitehead, B/M, 11.09.1999, a resident of the City of Fort Lauderdale and was taken into custody on Friday, October 11th at approximately 7 P.M.
