One of my ' to do ' lists was to grab something like this for two reasons. 1. Of course being able adjust power in terms of both amp and volt to pieces of equipment I'm testing and creating but also in a learning capacity (had an old one that died out a couple years back) . I will also be going through ' everything electrical ' type of deal to teach the basics to a couple children (always being supervised), making simple circuits on breadboards etc.
Now for this bench top power supply.
As you search for yourself you’ll see many different option available from many different sellers. I ended up picking a seller who actually MAKES THIS than just a seller who is selling a bench top power supply along with everything else like the kitchen sink. UNIROI does electricity products, that is what they do and specialize. A friend of mine also has a UNIROI bench top power supply so in already working with on, I've come to trust this name. In finding their own sellers page was a good thing for me. I ordered, it arrive the next day ( love that Prime ), hooked it up and pretty darn sweet once again.
I took a quick video testing out the V and A. The volts are damn spot on, the amps are pretty darn close, close enough to be just fine for my needs and most DYI'ers out there in Amazon Land ! There are ways to adjust the pot's however with my own unit it is quite good straight out of the box. I've seen other no-name brands and they are absolutely horrible, nowhere close to the reading on a multi-meter !!
The power supply came packaged very well, heavy box, held tight with foam and the typical accessories. The power cord is long enough for my own use ( just a shade under 5' ) however if someone finds they need something longer, this cord is a standard computer supply cord. Grab a cord rated for 10A for that extra length if required.
The dials are nice and smooth, both course and fine, the power switch is nice and crisp as you cycle on and off the power, and the included two lead types work just fine for my usage. Regarding the dials, I find it quite nice there are both course and fine. At times I've used just a single dial power supply and you just have to barely touch the dial to do those small V or A adjustments...very annoying but not so here. The fine adjustment dials work very well on my unit.
The unit itself has a heavy duty metal case and if feels quite solid when holding the unit ( nothing rattling inside...a very good thing! )
The LED display is nice and bright so if your workshop is bright or dim you'll always see the display properly. One feature that I'm also glad to see is this has its own cooling fan.
In the end, I'm happy after running this though and testing it out. If you grab this I'm sure you'll be happy too.
