Here I was, with a temperature of 101, performing heart surgery while my nurse kept passing Dayquil under my mask to keep me going. I thought how could my childhood passion of working in medicine and living the American Dream have turned into such an unhealthy reality?
To top it off, when I called in sick the next day, my manager made me feel that I was inconveniencing HIM. A few weeks later I treated a young man who had four open-heart surgeries. He failed to report new symptoms thinking they were small and insignificant. That’s when I realized that there were “small and insignificant” things in MY life I needed to address too before I become a patient myself.
I used to say YES to almost everything.
But now I believe when we say YES to too many things - it actually hurts us.
Society has taught us to be polite, to be liked by people. However, when we say YES to things that do not align with our core values, we might be resentful, unable to deliver quality results, and sometimes cannot keep our promises.
Many young professionals like me have similar struggles, despite being in the early stage of their career or already working in their areas of passion.
With a simple system, I call, “Say NO to Stress, Say Yes to Stamina,” I am able to turn my life around. Now I work full time in surgery, train for a bodybuilding competition, and help other professionals to have a heck YEAH life. Let me take you through two of them.
#1) Say NO to negative thoughts, so you can reclaim your mental power.
#2) Say NO to self-care comes last, so you can give the best of you not what is left of you.
Having a Heck Yeah life requires conscious intentions and all starts with knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Take this 3-minute quiz to “Discover Your Hidden Roadblocks.”

Last year on a family vacation, we decided to say NO to staying indoors on a cold night, and say YES to embracing the cold and enjoying a beautiful night sky. Having moments like this is why I now work smarter and not harder for a Heck Yeah life.
Are you also walking toward a Heck Yeah life?
